Rogan Consulting services mobilise the power of people’s thinking, build strategic collaboration and make it possible for organisations to take decisions – whether that be as part of strategic planning, program development or team restructuring.
Facilitation
Most consulting assignments require facilitation, whether as the main service or as a means of engaging people in consultation and decision making. Lyla has successfully facilitated an extraordinarily diverse range of meetings and forums in her 20 years as a consultant. She is recognised for her inclusive and engaging style, her ability to win the trust of groups and her capacity to always add value because of her listening, analytic and conceptual skills.
Facilitation experience ranges from planning and policy forums at the senior executive level of government, nonprofit board and management planning workshops, policy roundtables and think tanks and consultation and learning processes with NGO staff and communities in developing countries.
Strategic Planning
Assisting non-government organisations – large and small; local, national and global – in strategic planning is one way Lyla helps organisations envision and deliver on their aspirations. She is especially skilled at helping organisations map a strategic pathway that communicates internally and externally what is most important and lends itself to being translated into actionable plans and progress measures.
Strategic planning engagements almost always involve advice on process design, facilitating workshops of boards, leadership groups and staff and helping to analyse and capture the emergent thinking. Lyla is skilled at writing strategic plans that are powerful, accessible and culturally right for specific organisations.
Organisational development
Clients of Rogan Consulting have benefited through a wide range of organisational support and development projects. This includes being a mentor and sounding board to heads of organisations and management teams, working with boards to strengthen governance, advising on structure and organisational redesign and facilitating processes to build future sustainability and team effectiveness.
Lyla gets to know her clients – their aspirations, challenges and organisational cultures. She gains the trust of people inside organisations at all levels. This trust allows her to help carry different voices and ideas into decision making, to challenge managers when this is needed and to help build the momentum and capacity for change.
Her work in strategic and operational planning almost always involves capacity building and change management. She advises and challenges leadership groups to define and strengthen their planning and reporting systems. Consulting support is offered in a way that helps to embed good practice and retains ownership and responsibility for processes with the organisation.
Program effectiveness and accountability
A further stream of work focuses on helping organisations or service sectors define the outcomes and logic of their programs and activities in a way that supports program effectiveness, quality and accountability. This work takes different forms including program reviews, assisting organisations develop their program logic and evaluation frameworks and work on standards and quality improvement.
Lyla has a particular interest and experience in how organisations engage and are accountable to the communities they serve, and how they get an appropriate balance between community accountability and accountability to donors and funders. This experience was built through work with international NGOs in the humanitarian field, but has application in many other sectors.
